The Face Lit Up

This morning my daughter was up early so previous to taking her to school I spent some time with her at a local coffee shop. She calls these “study days” when we both get out our computers and do some work. More often I work while she watches youtube videos. Gen Alpha everybody.

Anyway, this morning I looked up and saw her smiling and laughing at the video that she was watching. I had no idea what the video was that she was watching, but her affect brought a spark of joy into my heart.

It struck me that many times our biggest impression on people will not be the content we share, but the way we share it. When we respond to online content with cynicism or rage, we bear the creative responsibility of passing those emotions on to others. When we respond in joy or enthusiasm, we pass that along as well.

In our metamodern world, there is a burden on the one consuming content to frame and shape the truth for others.

What truth is your response speaking to a world that is watching?

“A glad heart makes a cheerful face,
but by sorrow of heart the spirit is crushed.
” Proverb 15:13
